Ningyoyaki is said to have originated in Ningyocho, Tokyo, which flourished as a theater town during the Edo period. It is said that the craftsmen who trained in Ningyocho during the Taisho era began making ware in Asakusa, with motifs of Asakusa's famous places such as Kaminarimon and the five-storied pagoda, and it was initially sold under the name ``Meishoyaki.'' Nowadays, many items are baked in molds such as Bunraku dolls and the Seven Lucky Gods.
