This area is home to the homes of foreigners from the settlement era, including those of the adventurous merchant Thomas Glover, as well as Western-style buildings that were scattered throughout Nagasaki city, and here you can get a feel for the history of Nagasaki from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji era.
The Glover House, the Alt House, and the Ringer House were built during the settlement period and are precious buildings that have stood here for over 150 years. These three buildings have been designated as Important Cultural Properties by the government, and the Glover House is also registered as a component part of the "Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution."
